A celebration of the early John Page era Masterbuilt guitars from the Fender Custom Shop 1987-1999, when "Masterbuilt" really was Masterbuilt. Please message me privately for internal pocket pictures.
Heres a seriously nice guitar and a genuine second year of production Custom Shop Strat. With no Custom Shop catalog as such back then (first one didn't appear till Namm 1996) this guitar would have been a custom ordered and built to the ordering dealers specs. It might have been built for a show even.
The 1988 guitars didn't have a COA but I would expect it to be called a Custom 60's Strat with specs which loosely match 1960's guitar. It has a Sherwood Green Metallic finish with a 60's profile neck which is reasonably slim as far as the CS were concerned. The the neck pocket reveals the initials F.S. by Fred Stuart (pencilled) A year later they started with their own 'Masterbuilder' signature decals. So this is one of the first issue oval type decal. Please also note V serial numbers were common on Custom Shop guitars till early 1992.
Pickups look to be Custom 60's judging by the output. I have seen similar one's recently for $3500. These are reasonably rare, production numbers weren't huge back then like they are today so you can be sure she will hold her value in years to come. Overall she is a very clean example. One noticeable nick to the top of the headstock other then this you’ll find no dings, so a closer inspection will be required to find any hint of any superficial light surface grazes to the gloss nitro gloss finish. Included is the original old G&G Fender hardcase.
