FENDER USA Custom Shop Stratocaster Hank Marvin Prototype 1# OF 20 "Fiesta Red +

FENDER USA Custom Shop Stratocaster Hank Marvin Prototype 1# OF 20 "Fiesta Red +

n the late 1980's in collaboration with Ivor Arbiter (UK Fender Importer) Hank Marvin commissioned a run of Custom Shop Stratocasters bearing his name. The first few prototypes were created in the Fender Custom shop by legendary Fender Builder JW Black (Who had previously built for Clapton, Bon Jovi, Bob Dylan etc). The first prototypes were made and shipped to Hank/Arbiter. After Hank decided to recall the model for a few finer tweaks a few of the original batch survived in their original form (around only 12 guitars) which were believed to have been donated without Hank's approval. The guitar then took another 3 years to develop into the Hank Marvin 'Signature Edition' with its final release in 1992 bearing the signature on the headstock and the Teflon nut etc.. Hank and Fender collectors regard this stratocaster as one of the Holy Grails of Custom shop collecting due to its premature release.

The Guitar we have here is believed to be the first ever Hank Marvin Custom Shop Strat prototype bearing the 000 Serial number on the certificate. After countless hours of research and contact with Fender, it is believed that this beauty is one of the 12 guitars which were Donated without Hanks final approval.  Rather then being sold this guitar was donated at the family of the year awards by the princess of wales - Diana Spencer. These prototypes were equipped with gold plated hardware, vintage kluson tuners, a 2-pivot brige and 3 gold lace sensor pick-ups. The action is low, the frets are full and the neck is straight. The Lace Sensor pickups deliver a variety of tones. This is a Minter. Collector owned, it has seen little playtime since 1997 when it was purchased from the original owner for over 5k. The guitar has remained in its hard-case and left untouched since it was donated (So much so that the original battery for the MDX circuit was dated to expire in 1992). As such one can expect an unplayed museum quality guitar with the odd hint of age related wear. Consequently it shows No noticeable play-wear. No marks/dents/impressions. Comes in its original Old school G&G Fender hard shell case with a pile of candy and COA.

This is a Amazing guitar and if you know your guitars you know that the pieces created by Fender during this era are going up quickly in price and are often between £4'000-10'000. In addition, the subsequent heritage and provenance is sure to make this one of the most collectible artist released fender guitars in history.
