FENDER USA International LTD Stratocaster "Maui Blue + Maple" (1980).

FENDER USA International LTD Stratocaster "Maui Blue + Maple" (1980).

The "international color" palette lasted only a short time -- three years. Some unpopular colors were quickly discontinued while others held on until the entire line of paints was ultimately dropped, save for one. That color was Arctic White, which remains as an available finish on selected models. Monaco Yellow seems to be a relatively rare option along with this Maui Blue -- I've only seen one or two in my time.

Not too long ago I had a really cool 79 Monaco Yellow Strat in stock which sold for £2399.99. Sometimes I get on a winning streak and get a run of similar guitars. Serendipity I guess. Cool features and looks. The body is not too heavy so shes not a backbreaker. The maple neck features a maple fingerboard and 21 frets. Big headstock, 3 bolt with micro tilt and bullet trussrod adjustment. A trio of early plastic bobbin single coils pump out big tone through the factory five-way switch. The string-through hardtail bridge and Schaller F tuners team up to keep things solid. Bluer than many I’ve seen as they tend to turn green, this one has the look of a modern sonic blue. All original down to the electronics, pots and pickups, this one would suit a collector who is looking for a seriously clean guitar with that Vintage quack! All date markings and decals are intact. A really hip Strat that is unique and quite attractive.

This Strat has hip vintage feel and nice tone. The neck is straight. The frets show little wear and play fine. The pickups and electronics sound great with a unique hendrix vibe - a real case queen with only some minor impressions in pleaces. I really couldn't contain my excitement the first time i got this as i know someone has been waiting long and hard to find one of these in excellent condition. My Guess is that it was played for a few years by the original owner when purchased new and then left "under the bed" not seeing the light of day for a long time. Comes with original hardshell case and owners manual.
