Here's a rare and cool Gibson in a wild finish. The ES-137 Premier was only made for a short time and was a more modern take on the classic hollowbody. The body outline is similar to the venerable ES-175 but thin like an ES-335. Made of laminated maple, the body features a mahogany center block for increased sustain and feedback resistance. 496R and 500T humbuckers deliver big tone. A Stopbar tailpiece, Tuneomatic bridge, and Kluson style tuners round out the hardware. This example is finished in a hip Candy Apple Red lacquer. A really cool guitar with a great vibe!
This ES-137 has good feel. Nice neck with good frets and nice action. The pickups sound good and the electronics work great. This is a Clena example in EX condition. Well taken care of, it shows light pick and finish scratches as well as some light lacquer bubbling to outside binding. A good looking example. Comes in a Gibson hardshell case. A large portion of the overall tone comes from the wood and in particular the neck – Fat neck, fat tone, thin neck thin tone, so like many fine gibson Semi based instruments, the ES-137 has a medium to full neck profile, with a flavour taken from the late 60’s Gibson golden era – Hence enough girth to enrich the tone, sustain and stability, but not to the point that it impedes the playing experience.
Gibson no longer offers the ES-137 in this color. Here’s one with a cool finish and a great vibe. The ES-137 is not a ‘Plain Jane’ guitar, yet its simplicity is its appeal, with a kool finish, maple body to add a touch of character – Less is more approach.
