Body
- Original Olympic White nitrocellulose finish over poly undercoat, exhibiting natural aging and checking consistent with late-’60s CBS-era production.
- Neck pocket features the correct red “722” and green inspection stamps used by Fender during 1968–69.
Neck
- Neck heel stamp reads “3 247 9 9B”, decoding as:
- 3 = Telecaster model
- 247 = Day of the year (September, 4th week)
- 9 = 1969
- 9B = Neck width code (“B” = 1 5/8" nut width)
- Features a maple cap fingerboard with a skunk stripe — a rare transitional combination used only in late 1968–1969.
Neck Plate
- “F” stamped plate with 6-digit serial in the 25xxxx range, placing production firmly within late ’68 to early ’69
Electronics
- CTS pots dated 137-6644 (44th week of 1966), completely correct for 1969 assembly, as Fender used ’66 surplus through the decade.
- Yellow Astron-style capacitors and CRL switch with metal spring intact and showing consistent oxidation.
- Original solder joints remain untouched.
Pickups
- Original late-’60s black-bobbin single coils, factory wind and cloth wiring intact.
- DC resistance measures within the expected range (~6.0–6.5kΩ).
Bigsby System
- Factory-installed Fender Bigsby B5, with correct routed body and “F” logo bridge plate.
- Mounting wear and finish pattern confirm factory installation, not aftermarket.
Pickguard
- Original 8-hole single-ply white guard, correct for 1968–69 production.
Personal Thoughts:
This 1969 Fender Telecaster with Factory Bigsby is an exceptionally preserved example from the CBS transitional era one of the cleanest original specimens to surface. The finish, hardware, and components are consistent across the board, with no evidence of refinishing or replaced parts.
It captures the tone and feel of late-’60s Fender: chimey, open, and slightly compressed, with the added shimmer and smooth vibrato of the Bigsby B5. The Olympic White finish has aged beautifully, with subtle checking and yellowing that give it genuine vintage character without over-relicing.
For collectors, the maple-cap neck, factory Bigsby, and intact paperwork make this an exceptionally desirable piece museum-grade authenticity with incredible playability.
