This Western Classic Pre-War J-200 is a seriously rare and unique example of Gibson’s legendary jumbo acoustic. The 3-piece rosewood back, a feature exclusive to 2009-2013 models, gives it rich depth and sustain that stands apart from later Western Classic models, which reverted to a single-piece back.
The Cherry Sunburst finish is an absolute stunner, and tracking down an exact production number for this color has been next to impossible. I’ve only come across one other example, so this may very well have been part of a small, special run, making it all the more collectible.
Tonally, it’s everything you’d want from a Pre-War-style J-200—huge, warm, and resonant, yet with surprising clarity and chime in the top end. It’s got fantastic balance, and that classic jumbo projection makes it perfect for both strumming and fingerpicking.
