Consignment Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions govern the consignment services provided by Squealing Pig Guitars Ltd (“Squealing Pig Guitars”, “we”, “us”, or “the Consignee”) to the individual consigning an instrument (“the Consignor”).
Squealing Pig Guitars Ltd is a UK-based retailer specialising in the sale of new and pre-owned guitars and musical instruments.
The Consignor refers to the individual or entity who owns the instrument and has submitted it to Squealing Pig Guitars for sale on a consignment basis.
By submitting the Squealing Pig Guitars consignment agreement form, the Consignor confirms that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by the Terms & Conditions outlined below.
1. Consignment Agreement
Submitting a consignment enquiry does not automatically constitute a binding agreement.
A consignment arrangement becomes active once:
• the Consignor submits the Squealing Pig Guitars consignment agreement form
• Squealing Pig Guitars accepts the instrument for consignment
This agreement confirms the agreed terms including:
• Reserve Price
• Commission structure
• Consignment period
• Sales channels
• Any additional promotional services
Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to decline consignment after inspection if the instrument condition differs materially from the information provided.
2. Sales Channels
Instruments placed on consignment with Squealing Pig Guitars may be marketed and sold through a combination of sales channels including but not limited to:
• The Squealing Pig Guitars website
• Reverb
• eBay
• Social media platforms
• Demonstration videos and marketing content
• In-person sales through the Squealing Pig Guitars showroom
Instruments may be listed across multiple platforms simultaneously in order to maximise visibility and achieve the best possible sale price.
Each platform may have its own selling and payment processing fees. These fees are separate from Squealing Pig Guitars’ commission and may be deducted from the final sale price where applicable.
Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to determine the most appropriate sales platforms for each instrument.
3. Commission & Fees
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Squealing Pig Guitars charges 10% commission on the final selling price of the instrument.
This commission is separate from any platform selling fees or payment processing charges that may apply depending on the platform used to complete the sale.
These additional fees may be deducted from the final sale proceeds where applicable.
4. Optional YouTube Promotion
Squealing Pig Guitars operates an active YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@squealingpigguitars) where selected instruments are showcased through demonstrations and reviews to an international audience.
If the Consignor opts to have their instrument featured on the Squealing Pig Guitars YouTube channel, an additional 5% commission will apply upon successful sale.
This results in a total commission of 15% where YouTube promotion has been selected.
Participation in this promotional service is optional and must be confirmed in the consignment agreement form.
5. Reserve Price
Before listing an instrument, a Reserve Price will be agreed between the Consignor and Squealing Pig Guitars.
The Reserve Price represents the minimum amount the Consignor will receive after commission and applicable selling fees have been deducted.
Squealing Pig Guitars will not accept any offer that results in a payout below the agreed Reserve Price without the Consignor’s consent.
6. Price Adjustments
The initial listing price of the instrument will be agreed prior to marketing.
If the instrument has not sold after a reasonable period of time, Squealing Pig Guitars may recommend a price adjustment based on market demand, buyer feedback, and comparable sales.
Any reduction below the agreed Reserve Price requires the Consignor’s approval.
If the Consignor cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts regarding a recommended price adjustment, Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to pause marketing of the instrument until further instruction is received.
7. Consignment Period
The consignment period will be the duration selected in the consignment agreement form (for example 30, 60, or 90 days).
8. Automatic Extension
If the instrument has not sold by the end of the agreed consignment period, the agreement will automatically continue on a rolling 30-day basis under the same terms and conditions.
Either party may terminate the rolling agreement by providing 7 days written notice.
During any extension period the instrument remains subject to the same commission and terms outlined in this agreement.
9. Storage, Possession & Responsibility for Instruments
Consigned instruments may either be held by Squealing Pig Guitars or retained by the Consignor, depending on the arrangement agreed between both parties.
Instruments Held by Squealing Pig Guitars
Where the instrument is delivered to and stored by Squealing Pig Guitars:
• The instrument will remain in the care of Squealing Pig Guitars for the duration of the consignment agreement.
• Reasonable care will be taken to safeguard the instrument while it is in our possession.
• The instrument will be covered under our insurance while stored at our premises.
If the instrument is lost, stolen, or irreparably damaged while in the care of Squealing Pig Guitars, the Consignor will be compensated up to the agreed Reserve Price.
Instruments Retained by the Consignor
In some cases the Consignor may retain possession of the instrument during the consignment period.
Where this arrangement applies:
• The Consignor remains responsible for the care, storage, and insurance of the instrument.
• Squealing Pig Guitars accepts no liability for loss, damage, theft, or deterioration while the instrument remains with the Consignor.
The Consignor must deliver the instrument to Squealing Pig Guitars for inspection, photography, or buyer viewings when requested.
Transporting the instrument to and from Squealing Pig Guitars remains the responsibility of the Consignor.
10. Condition & Inspection
All instruments are inspected upon arrival.
If undisclosed faults, modifications, or condition issues are discovered, Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to:
• delay listing
• request clarification from the Consignor
• decline consignment
11. Ownership Confirmation
By consigning an instrument, the Consignor confirms that:
• they are the legal owner of the instrument
• the instrument is not subject to finance or outstanding debt
• the instrument has not been reported stolen
• the instrument is free from legal disputes
12. Payout Terms
Payment to the Consignor will be made 14 days after the buyer has received the instrument.
This allows the buyer’s return window to expire and protects against chargebacks or payment disputes.
Payments will normally be made by bank transfer.
13. Returns
If a buyer returns the instrument within an eligible return period, no payment will be issued to the Consignor until the instrument has been resold.
The instrument may then be relisted for sale under the existing consignment agreement.
14. Withdrawal of Instruments
If the Consignor wishes to withdraw an instrument from consignment, reasonable notice must be provided.
Where the instrument has already been photographed, listed, or marketed, Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to charge a reasonable administrative fee.
15. Circumvention of Sale
During the consignment period the Consignor agrees not to advertise, list, or sell the instrument privately or through any other dealer or platform without prior written agreement from Squealing Pig Guitars.
If the Consignor:
• accepts a private offer
• completes a private sale
• lists the instrument elsewhere
• withdraws the instrument before the consignment term ends
Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to charge a penalty fee equivalent to the agreed consignment commission that would have been payable had the instrument sold through Squealing Pig Guitars.
16. Buyer Introduction Protection
A buyer is considered introduced by Squealing Pig Guitars if they became aware of the instrument through any listing, advertisement, demonstration video, showroom viewing, or marketing produced by Squealing Pig Guitars.
If the instrument is sold privately to a buyer introduced through Squealing Pig Guitars during the consignment period, the agreed commission remains payable.
This restriction remains in effect for 30 days following the end of the consignment period.
17. Sale Commitment
Once Squealing Pig Guitars has agreed a sale with a buyer that meets or exceeds the agreed Reserve Price, the Consignor agrees to complete the transaction.
If the Consignor attempts to withdraw the instrument after a sale has been agreed, Squealing Pig Guitars reserves the right to charge the full agreed commission.
18. Payment Disputes & Chargebacks
If a payment dispute, chargeback, or fraudulent transaction occurs after payment has been made to the Consignor, the Consignor agrees to cooperate with Squealing Pig Guitars to resolve the matter.
If funds are recovered from Squealing Pig Guitars due to such a dispute relating to the sale of the Consignor’s instrument, the Consignor agrees to repay any funds previously paid to them.
19. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
