This is a particularly cool ’55-inspired Custom Shop Tele, and the Copper finish gives it a completely different personality from the usual Blonde and Butterscotch examples. Fender have heavily faded and checked the nitro finish, giving the guitar the look of an instrument that has aged naturally over decades, while the one-piece maple aesthetic and simple vintage appointments keep everything firmly rooted in the mid-’50s.
The neck specification is especially appealing. The substantial 1954 U profile measures around .940" at the first fret and .970" at the twelfth, giving it that big, reassuring early-Fender feel, but the 9.5" radius and 6105 narrow-tall frets make it considerably easier to live with than a completely period-correct vintage neck. Combined with the exceptionally lightweight ash body, it should feel lively, resonant and very immediate in the hands.
A pair of hand-wound ’55/’56 Tele pickups and Fat ’50s wiring complete the vintage recipe, with plenty of snap, bite and woody midrange available from the bridge and a fuller, rounder neck sound. A really characterful Custom Shop Tele with a superb lightweight build and one of the more unusual finishes from this period.
Condition Report
Mint condition beyond the intentional Fender Custom Shop Journeyman Relic treatment. The heavy lacquer checking, fading, finish wear and aged hardware are all part of the original factory specification rather than subsequent damage. No noteworthy additional wear or issues to mention. Supplied with its original Fender Custom Shop hardshell case, certificate of authenticity and Shop Floor Traveller.
