This is a really cool guitar and one of the strongest things Epiphone have done in this higher-end Inspired by Gibson Custom line. The appeal is pretty obvious: it gives you the classic early humbucker Goldtop look and feel, but in a much more accessible package than the USA Custom Shop equivalent. The spec is strong too, especially with the one-piece mahogany neck, rosewood board, ABR-1 and aluminium tailpiece, because that keeps it rooted in the proper late-’50s Les Paul formula rather than feeling like just another standard production Epiphone. The USA-made Gibson Custombuckers are a huge plus as well, and they are a big reason these models get taken seriously. Goldtop is always a winner on a Les Paul, and on a ’57-style reissue it just looks right. A very smart choice for someone wanting vintage-style Les Paul appeal without jumping all the way into Gibson Custom Shop money.
