This is a particularly cool ’59 Custom Shop Strat, with the Super Heavy Relic treatment revealing the original 3-Colour Sunburst beneath the later Black top coat. It gives the guitar the appearance of a genuinely hard-played vintage instrument that has been refinished during its lifetime and subsequently worn back through again. The dark AAA rosewood board is a great finishing touch and was specifically selected at the factory for its darker appearance.

The neck specification is equally appealing. Fender have paired a rift-sawn maple neck with a substantial ’59 Esquire C profile measuring .790" at the first fret and .970" at the twelfth. A 9.5" radius and large 6100 frets move the playing feel away from a completely period-correct vintage Strat and make it considerably more forgiving for bending and modern lead playing.

The Josefina hand-wound ’59 pickup set is another major highlight, including an RWRP middle pickup for quieter combined positions. Tonally, this should retain the glassy attack, openness and woody character associated with a late-’50s Strat while giving the guitar a slightly more practical modern playing specification. A superb Custom Shop build with one of the best-looking layered relic finishes and a particularly strong factory spec.

Mint condition beyond the intentional Fender Custom Shop Super Heavy Relic treatment. The extensive finish wear, exposed 3-Colour Sunburst, checking, chips and aged hardware are all deliberate factory ageing rather than subsequent damage. No noteworthy additional wear or issues to mention. Supplied with its original Fender Custom Shop hardshell case, certificate of authenticity and Shop Floor Traveller.
