  • Personal Thoughts

This is a very cool Custom Shop Strat, and for me the Postmodern models are some of the most sensible guitars Fender make for players who want vintage style without being boxed into a completely period-correct spec. You still get the look and feel of a classic mid 60s Strat, but there are a few smart changes here that make it a much more practical guitar in the real world.

The Aged Black finish always works well on a Strat, and the Journeyman Relic treatment feels spot on for this sort of build. It has enough ageing to give the guitar character and a properly broken-in look, but it stops short of feeling overdone. Spec wise, there is a lot to like here too. The compound radius, narrow tall frets, contoured heel and 1959 D neck shape all point towards a guitar that should feel very easy to get along with, whilst still keeping that Custom Shop vintage flavour. The Hand Wound Dual Mag II pickups are also a really nice touch, and should give it a strong, expressive Strat voice with a bit of extra refinement. A very attractive USA Fender Custom Shop piece and a great choice for someone wanting an old-school look with a more player-friendly spec.

  • Condition Report

Mint. Journeyman Relic finish from factory. Presents very well overall, with the ageing and wear exactly as intended by Fender Custom Shop. Beyond the original relic treatment, there is no noteworthy additional wear to mention.
