  • Personal Thoughts

This is a seriously collectible early-’90s Fender Custom Shop Strat and one of the rarest Hank Marvin-related models produced. The run was commissioned by Arbiter and limited to just 100 guitars, with this example carrying the desirable #58 designation. Fuzzfaced notes that these were dealer-commissioned Custom Shop instruments rather than an official artist-signature collaboration in the modern sense, which only makes them more interesting historically.

The specification is unmistakably Hank-inspired: Vintage Fiesta Red, highly figured maple neck, gold hardware, locking tuners and a 2-point bridge. The pickup arrangement is also unusual, using Seymour Duncan Vintage Staggered SSL-1s in the middle and neck positions with a DiMarzio FS-1 at the Bridge. A push/pull on the second tone control adds the neck-and-bridge combination, giving the guitar a useful extra voice beyond the standard Strat layout.

Visually, this example is exceptional. The Fiesta Red finish remains vivid, the figured maple neck is beautifully preserved and, importantly, there are no neck-pocket cracks. The lacquer checking visible across the maple board is entirely consistent with age and adds genuine vintage character rather than detracting from the presentation.

For a collector, the combination of the low-production run, unusual factory specification, Hank Marvin association and remarkably preserved condition makes this a particularly strong example. These guitars already occupy a niche but very desirable place in Custom Shop history, and finding one this clean is becoming increasingly difficult. Fuzzfaced

  • Condition Report

Mint collector’s condition. Exceptionally well preserved for a 1992 instrument, with no neck-pocket cracks, no significant finish damage and no meaningful playwear to note. There is natural lacquer checking visible on the maple fingerboard and neck, entirely consistent with age. Overall, the guitar presents remarkably cleanly and has clearly been carefully stored and preserved.
