The Summer of Love and the Flower Power movement of 1967 significantly shaped mainstream fashion across the globe, and Fender embraced this cultural moment with the introduction of its Blue Flower. Interestingly, these vibrant guitars found their greatest popularity among rockabilly and country western musicians—most notably Telecaster virtuoso James Burton—rather than the flower children who initially inspired them. As a result, these models have secured a unique place in Fender's legacy. The Fender Custom Shop's Vintage Custom 1968 Blue Flower models are meticulously crafted tributes to these iconic instruments.
Each guitar features a two-piece select alder body finished in a Relic lacquer with a WLS undercoat, showcasing the distinctive Blue Flower design. The rift-sawn maple neck is shaped with a '60-style “oval C” profile, complemented by a round-lam rift-sawn maple fingerboard that boasts a vintage compound radius of 7.25” to 9.5”. Enhanced playability is provided by the 21 narrow tall frets, ensuring comfort across the entire fretboard. The bright tone is captured by a hand-wound Broadcaster pickup, while a hand-wound Twisted Tele pickup contributes to the rich sonic palette.
