The Dan Smith Strats have become really interesting guitars in their own right, representing a very specific transitional period in Fender history. These early-’80s USA Strats marked Fender’s move back towards more traditional Stratocaster specifications and improved build quality, and they have become increasingly collectible as a result.

This one is particularly appealing as an original, well-kept under-the-bed find. The natural ash finish works brilliantly with the rosewood fingerboard and gives it a proper early-’80s Fender look. The hardtail configuration also makes it a less commonly encountered example and gives the guitar a slightly different feel and response compared with the usual trem-equipped Strat.

A very cool, original USA Fender from an increasingly appreciated period.

 

Very good condition. There is a notable ding / impression to the face of the body, which is the main reason for the grading, but otherwise this appears to be a very well-kept and original example. A lovely under-the-bed find supplied with its original case.
