The Dan Smith Strats have become really interesting guitars in their own right, because they represent such a specific and unusual moment in Fender history. The two-knob layout, Freeflyte trem and slightly stripped-back control setup make them instantly different from the more familiar pre-CBS and later reissue models, and that is a big part of the appeal now. They are no longer just odd transitional Strats — they have their own identity. This one sounds especially appealing because it is an original, well-kept under-the-bed find, and that sort of honest, unspoiled example is exactly what people want with guitars from this era. The natural finish works really well on these too, especially with the rosewood board, giving it a proper early-’80s look without feeling overdone. A very cool original USA Strat from an increasingly appreciated period.
Condition Report
Very good condition. There is a notable ding / impression to the face of the body, which is the main reason for the grading, but otherwise this appears to be a very well-kept and original example. A lovely under-the-bed find supplied with its original case.
