  • Personal Thoughts

A particularly cool and unusual Masterbuilt Stratocaster from Jason Smith, finished in a beautifully aged Robin's Egg Blue. While it retains the unmistakable look and feel of an early '60s Strat, the pickup configuration makes this a far more versatile instrument than your typical vintage reissue.

The combination of hand-wound Tomatillo single coils and a Bare Knuckle Mule humbucker is a real highlight. The neck and middle positions deliver the clarity, dynamics and traditional Strat character you'd expect, while the bridge humbucker offers considerably more body, sustain and output without becoming overly aggressive.

The guitar has also been fitted with an aftermarket relic pickguard from Charles Guitars, which complements the aged Robin's Egg Blue finish beautifully. The original Fender Custom Shop silver anodised pickguard is included, allowing the next owner to return the guitar to its original appearance if preferred.

The quarter-sawn maple neck features a comfortable early '60s profile, with a 9.5" radius and 6105 frets providing a more accommodating playing experience than a strict vintage-spec Strat. The additional factory ageing to the rear of the neck gives it that lovely worn-in feel you'd expect from a high-end Masterbuilt instrument.

An excellent choice for someone looking for the craftsmanship, character and vintage appeal of a Fender Masterbuilt Stratocaster, but with a little more versatility under the hood.
