Austin MacNutt has quickly built a reputation for producing some of the most tasteful and musically focused Masterbuilt instruments in the Fender Custom Shop, and this ’62 Jazzmaster is a superb example of his work.
The Olive Drab Burst finish is genuinely special — understated, military-inspired, and extremely rare. Finished in NOS, it allows the roasted ash body to shine both visually and tonally, giving the guitar a dry, resonant acoustic character with excellent clarity and note separation. It’s a finish that feels purposeful rather than decorative, and one that suits the Jazzmaster silhouette perfectly.
The AAA rosewood round-lam fingerboard paired with the early ’60s Oval C neck profile delivers a wonderfully balanced feel — comfortable, familiar, and immediately playable. The compound radius is a subtle modern touch that enhances playability without detracting from the vintage-correct aesthetic.
The hand-wound flat magnet Jazzmaster pickups are outstanding: warm, open, and harmonically rich, with that unmistakable wide Jazzmaster voice that works beautifully for clean textures, ambient work, and driven indie or alternative tones.
This guitar was featured on Andertons as part of a special three-piece Masterbuilt run, making it not only a phenomenal instrument but also a documented and highly collectable example.
