Personal Thoughts:
The Comanche is one of G&L’s boldest departures from the Strat blueprint, and this early ‘90s example with AAA+ birdseye maple is something really special. It’s an instrument for players who demand clarity, power, and flexibility. The Z-Coil pickups may look odd, but they deliver in spades – hum-free, with PAF-style fullness but Strat-like articulation. Whether you're after smooth jazz cleans, compressed funk quack, or gain-heavy modern tones, this can do it all. Even subtle settings like neck + bridge or all-three pickups offer inspiring textures, and the passive bass/treble cut options are incredibly useful.
It’s also one of the best “pedal platforms” I’ve played – the rich, hi-fi clarity responds beautifully to drives, delays, and modulation effects. If you love the shape and comfort of a Legacy but want a far more versatile and powerful tonal engine, the Comanche is a serious sleeper. A collector’s piece, but an even better workhorse.
