This Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged 1955 NAMM Show Commemorative Les Paul is a brilliant blend of bold visual statement and classic Gibson authority. The Platinum finish is already striking in standard form, but the subtle Murphy Lab ageing elevates it — gently softening the gloss, adding light checking, and giving the guitar a more tactile, broken-in feel without dulling the impact of the finish.
Ultra Light ageing is the perfect choice here. It takes the edge off the brand-new look while preserving the clean, high-end aesthetic that makes this model so special. The result feels purposeful rather than theatrical — more “played and loved” than “reliced.”
Tonally, it delivers exactly what you’d expect from a Custom Shop Les Paul with an ebony board: tight low end, focused mids, and a clear, articulate top end. It’s powerful, refined, and extremely usable across a wide range of styles.
This is a standout modern commemorative piece that still feels very much like a serious player’s guitar.
