This is a seriously special Murphy Lab Les Paul inspired by one of the most recognisable guitars featured in The Beauty of the Burst. The original 1959 Les Paul, serial number 9 1688 and nicknamed “Spot,” appears on page 86 of the book and later became particularly well known through its association with Joe Bonamassa. Gibson’s interpretation recreates the guitar’s unusual colour pattern, including the distinctive darker area toward the lower section of the top that gave the original its nickname.

The Golden Poppy Burst finish works brilliantly across the figured maple, with a rich, relatively unfaded appearance and far more individual character than a conventional sunburst. The pair of exposed double-white Custombuckers completes the look and gives it the instantly recognisable visual identity of the original guitar. Beneath the replica-inspired details, this remains a top-tier 1959 Reissue with traditional hide-glue construction, long-tenon neck joint, lightweight aluminium hardware and open, dynamic unpotted Alnico III pickups. A striking BOTB-inspired build with a great top, convincing Murphy Lab aging and strong collector appeal.

Mint condition beyond the extensive factory-applied Murphy Lab Heavy Aged treatment. All lacquer checking, finish wear, dents, fading, exposed timber, tarnishing and hardware aging are intentional factory features and should not be mistaken for subsequent damage.
