Before the Collector’s Choice series fully took over, Gibson Custom Shop produced a number of Beauty of the Burst “Page” runs, each limited to just thirty guitars and tied directly to specific instruments featured in Beauty of the Burst. This Page 116 example comes from that era — an important transitional moment where Gibson were clearly testing the waters for historically faithful replicas at a higher level.
The Page 116 burst is a particularly appealing one — warm, vintage-correct colouring with a naturally flowing flame that feels authentic rather than stylised. The heavy aging is well judged: convincing lacquer wear, checking, and hardware patina without tipping into caricature. It feels like a well-loved late-’50s Burst rather than a factory exercise.
Tonally, the BurstBucker 2 & 3 pairing delivers exactly what you’d expect from this period — open, woody mids, a slightly aggressive bridge bite, and a neck pickup that stays articulate rather than woolly. It’s an expressive, dynamic Les Paul that responds beautifully to picking nuance and volume control work.
These BOTB Page guitars are increasingly overlooked in favour of later CC models, but for collectors in the know, they represent some of the most interesting and genuinely limited Custom Shop work of the early 2010s.
