This is one of the most dramatic ’59 Reissues Gibson Custom has produced, pairing a hand-picked AAA figured maple top with the instantly recognisable Purple Tiger finish. The colour is closely associated with Slash’s modern Gibson era and gives the guitar a clear visual connection to his flamboyant figured-top Les Pauls, although this remains a limited-production Historic Reissue rather than an official Slash Signature model. Gibson describes Slash as its Global Brand Ambassador and maintains a dedicated Slash Collection, which helps explain why this colourway carries such immediate artist appeal.
The specification underneath is pure top-tier Historic Reissue. The V1 Carmelita neck carve has a substantial but carefully shaped vintage feel, while the long-tenon neck joint, hide-glue construction, nylon nut and lightweight aluminium stopbar follow the traditional late-1950s formula. The unpotted Alnico III Custombuckers deliver an open, dynamic response with plenty of clarity, bloom and vintage-style character.
The Heavy Aged treatment completes the look beautifully, with checking, fading and worn gold hardware giving the impression of a genuinely road-used instrument. Gibson positions Murphy Lab guitars as carefully aged Custom Shop instruments offered across multiple aging levels, and this example combines that treatment with one of the boldest limited-production finishes in the 2026 range.
Condition Report
Mint condition beyond the extensive factory-applied Murphy Lab Heavy Aged treatment. All lacquer checking, finish wear, exposed timber, tarnishing and hardware aging are intentional factory features and should not be mistaken for subsequent damage. As-new overseas import supplied with its original Gibson Custom Lifton hardshell case.
