This is a very cool Special and one that sits in a really nice spot within the Gibson Custom Shop lineup. The single cut shape gives it that slightly tougher, more old-school look compared with the later double cut version, while the 1960 spec means you still get the slimmer neck profile that a lot of players prefer. That makes it a great middle ground. The all-mahogany construction and twin P-90 setup is a huge part of the appeal too, because it gives these guitars a really direct, punchy and lively character without any unnecessary complexity. TV Yellow is obviously the right colour on a guitar like this as well. It just suits the model perfectly and always gives a Special that proper vintage Gibson look. A really strong reissue and one of those guitars that tends to feel more fun and more immediate than a lot of more expensive models. Chad Underwood’s work is well regarded, and when it is done properly like this it can really elevate the overall feel of the guitar rather than just making it look artificially worn. The Chad Underwood ageing has been executed to a very high standard and really suits the guitar.
