Personal Thoughts:
The 50th Anniversary ’68 Les Paul Custom is one of the most faithful reissues Gibson has ever produced of the early “reintroduction era” Customs. This spec captures everything players love about the late-’60s Black Beauty vibe: the ebony board snap, the unmistakable maple-top bite, and that piano-like low end the ’68s are known for.
Tonally, these guitars sit right between a ’50s LP and a modern Custom — more clarity and articulation than a typical all-mahogany Custom, but with a thicker, more authoritative midrange than a standard ’59-style burst. The 68 Custom humbuckers give you punch, presence and sustain for days.
Visually, this model is pure class. The multi-ply binding, block inlays, gold hardware, and inky jet-black nitro are everything a proper Black Beauty should be. This 2018 example is also from a particularly strong production run for the Custom Shop.
Condition Report:
Excellent. A handful of tiny marks and very light playwear only. No chips, dings or repairs. Frets and hardware remain very clean. COA and 50th Anniversary case included.
