This is a superb ’60 Reissue and the top is the obvious talking point. Rather than the ultra-uniform flame you sometimes see on modern reissues, this one has loads of natural character and movement, with areas of tighter figuring blending into broader, more irregular grain. Under the Tangerine Burst it gives the guitar a much more believable vintage look and a real one-off personality.

The ’60 specification is also ideal for players who prefer a slimmer neck than the fuller ’58 and ’59 profiles. You still get all the traditional Historic ingredients — mahogany body and neck, carved maple top, rosewood board, ABR-1 and aluminium stopbar — but with a quicker, more immediately comfortable neck feel.

The unpotted Custombuckers keep the tone open and dynamic, with plenty of upper-mid detail, airy top end and the softer compression associated with a good PAF-style pickup. The result is a Les Paul that looks highly collectible but is still very much built to be played.

A particularly strong example visually, with one of the more interesting and characterful tops we’ve seen on a recent R0.
