  • Personal Thoughts

These 60th Anniversary '59 reissues are some of the best modern Gibson Custom Shop Les Pauls in my opinion, because they were one of the clearest attempts to push the standard R9 formula that bit closer to the real thing. The spec is a big part of that. The Custombucker Alnico III set, no-wire ABR-1, lightweight aluminium tailpiece, nylon nut and more historically minded plastics all help give these a more authentic feel and response than many earlier reissues. I also think the neck carve on these tends to land in a really appealing middle ground — substantial enough to feel like a proper '59, but not so oversized that it limits the audience. The Iced Tea Fade finish works brilliantly on a guitar like this as well, especially with a figured top, as it gives you that classic late-'50s Les Paul look without being too bright or too dark. A very desirable Custom Shop reissue and one of the standout Les Paul specs from the period.
