Personal Thoughts:
The CS-336 is one of Gibson Custom Shop’s most underrated and beautifully engineered designs, and examples like this show exactly why. While it shares visual DNA with Gibson’s ES models, the carved-and-chambered solid-wood construction gives it a voice that sits uniquely between a Les Paul, an archtop, and a semi-hollow — with exceptional resonance and impressive feedback resistance.
This particular guitar is a standout thanks to its AAAAA quilt maple top, which is genuinely breathtaking in person. The natural finish lets the figure do all the talking, and it’s one of those tops you can lose time just staring at. Paired with the compact CS-336 body shape, it’s extremely well balanced and comfortable, whether seated or on a strap.
Tonally, the Wildwood-spec Custombuckers are superb — punchy yet nuanced, with rich mids, sweet attack, and that three-dimensional note bloom you associate with great vintage instruments. Clean tones are warm and articulate, while driven sounds have depth and authority without ever getting congested.
This is a guitar you pick up “just to try” and then realise you’ve been playing for an hour straight.
Condition Report:
Mint condition. The guitar has seen very little use and remains exceptionally clean throughout. Frets are immaculate, setup is excellent, and everything functions perfectly. Supplied with the original hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity.
