Personal Thoughts:
The Murphy Lab ’59 Reissues are already among the most convincing modern Les Pauls Gibson have ever produced — but when you add a Hand Picked Top (HPT) into the mix, things step up another level.
This example was personally selected by Andertons, and it shows. The maple top has that perfect balance: plenty of character and movement without crossing into over-the-top modern flame. It looks authentic, vintage-correct, and exactly what you want from a serious R9.
Tonally, it’s everything a great ’59 should be. Open, woody lows, vocal mids, and a sweet, airy top end. The Custombuckers excel here — dynamic, touch-sensitive, and harmonically rich. Clean tones bloom beautifully, while overdrive retains clarity and articulation without getting congested.
The Ultra Light Aged Murphy Lab finish is spot on — subtle checking, gentle wear, and a broken-in feel without feeling exaggerated. It looks like a well-cared-for vintage instrument rather than a stage prop.
This is a serious player’s R9 that also happens to be a top-tier collector piece.
