This is a spectacular Custom Collection ’59 Reissue and the Faded Peach Burst finish is one of those colours that really suits a heavily figured Les Paul top. The warm peach and amber centre fades into a darker outer edge, while the Heavy Aged treatment breaks everything up with checking, wear and patina that gives the guitar far more depth than a pristine gloss example.

The hand-selected AAA maple top is a major part of the appeal. There is loads of movement and character through the figuring rather than an overly uniform flame, which works brilliantly with the faded finish and gives the guitar a much more believable vintage-inspired appearance. Being part of Gibson’s limited Custom Collection also makes the specification considerably less common than a standard production R9.

Underneath the cosmetics, it has all the ingredients expected from a serious ’59 Reissue: mahogany body and neck, Indian rosewood fingerboard, hide-glue construction, ABR-1 bridge and lightweight aluminium stopbar. The authentic ’59-style neck carve provides that familiar substantial-but-balanced feel that has made the R9 such a benchmark among historic Les Pauls.

The Custombuckers are voiced around the classic PAF formula, with an open response, strong harmonic content and plenty of dynamic range. They suit the guitar perfectly, giving it the rich midrange and sustain expected from a great Les Paul without becoming overly compressed or muddy.

A particularly striking Murphy Lab R9 with a genuinely special top, rare limited-edition colour and some of Gibson’s most convincing Heavy Aged work.

Mint / as new condition. Overseas import sourced directly from supplier and presents exceptionally well, with no noteworthy additional marks, fret wear or signs of use beyond Gibson Custom’s intentional Murphy Lab Heavy Aged treatment. The extensive lacquer checking, finish wear and hardware patina are all part of the original factory specification.
