Personal Thoughts:
The Ultra Heavy Aged Murphy Lab models sit right at the top of Gibson’s lineup for good reason — the lacquer checking, patina, and texture on these is wildly convincing, and this Dirty Lemon example is one of those killer tops that feels straight out of the late ’50s. The colour is beautifully muted and vintage-correct, with that washed-out golden hue players love.
The installed Alan Dingwall Alnico 5 PAF set is a genuinely great upgrade — articulate, open, airy, and with more upper-harmonic complexity than stock Custombuckers. They give this guitar a hotter, more dynamic response that responds brilliantly to picking intensity. And with the original Custombuckers included, you get the best of both worlds: collector value preserved, tonal flexibility maximised.
Ultra Heavy Aged Les Pauls often feel “broken in” from the first touch — the finish checking, rolled edges and aged hardware give them that played-for-decades feel without any of the downsides. This one is a monster.
Condition Report:
Excellent. Factory Ultra Heavy Ageing throughout, with only minimal signs of play beyond that. Frets clean, hardware naturally aged by Murphy Lab. Replacement Dingwall pickups fitted; original Custombuckers included in the case. Case & COA present.
