Personal Thoughts:
The Murphy Lab 335s are in a different league — the lacquer feel is so much more organic and “old” than the standard Custom Shop finish. The Ultra Light Aged treatment here gives just that gentle vintage patina — faint checking, a touch of hardware dulling — without the heavy abuse look.
Cherry Red on a ’61 shape is iconic — this is the look that defined whole eras of blues, jazz-rock, and soul guitar. Combined with the Custombuckers, the tone is airy, open, woody and alive — chords bloom, lead lines have that vocal midrange that made the early 60s semi-hollows legendary.
It’s an elegant, expressive player — and even the slightest amp gain gives that syrupy, singing 335 voice.
Condition Report:
Excellent. Minor signs from factory ageing only. No modern damage or user marks. Very clean example. Case, COA and all paperwork included.
