This is one of the most important early Slash signature guitars Gibson Custom produced and an exceptionally desirable example within the run. Released in 2008 as the first major reissue collaboration between Gibson Custom Shop and Slash, it recreates his 1987 Les Paul Standard serial 81757532, better known as “Jessica” — one of the guitars most closely associated with his classic Guns N’ Roses era.

The ageing work is a huge part of the appeal. Tom Murphy recreated the distinctive wear patterns of the original guitar in remarkable detail, including the faded Cherry Sunburst appearance, extensive playwear, the famous cigarette burn beneath the bridge and even the visual evidence of the repaired headstock cracks found on Slash’s original. It gives the guitar the appearance of a genuinely road-worn late-’80s Les Paul rather than a conventional factory-aged instrument.

This particular example is especially significant because it carries the single-digit #009 serial. It is also from the first 50 signed examples, which were signed by Slash in silver Sharpie; the latter 50 were signed in black. For collectors, that combination of an ultra-low single-digit number and early silver signature makes this a particularly notable example from an already very scarce series.

The specification follows Slash’s original closely, with a mahogany body and neck, three-piece maple top, rosewood fingerboard and Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers. The Custom Slash neck profile is based around the slimmer late-’60s feel he prefers, while the pickups deliver the warm, open and vocal midrange strongly associated with his classic Les Paul tones.

Only 100 Aged & Signed instruments were produced worldwide, with no regular unsigned aged production version sitting beneath them. As an unplayed, collector-owned example purchased specifically as an investment, #009 is a particularly compelling piece for a serious Slash or Gibson collector.

All checking, finish wear, dents, repaired-crack simulation, cigarette burn detailing and hardware ageing are intentional features of Tom Murphy’s original factory ageing treatment and replicate Slash’s “Jessica” rather than representing subsequent damage.
