Personal Thoughts:

Mid-2000s “Good Wood” Gibsons have quietly become very desirable — and this 2005 Limited Edition Pacific Reef is a great example of why.

Limited to approximately 275 units worldwide, this run came in three finishes: Manhattan Blue, Santa Fe, and Pacific Reef — with Pacific Reef being arguably the boldest and most eye-catching of the trio. The colour shifts beautifully under light, sitting somewhere between deep teal and ocean blue, with an unusual and characterful maple top that gives it a distinctive identity.

The ebony board adds snap and clarity, tightening up the low end and giving the guitar a slightly more immediate attack compared to rosewood examples. The SG-style crown inlay on the headstock is a subtle but very cool twist — not something you see on your typical Les Paul Standard.

This was a strong period for Gibson build quality — solid woods, great weight balance, and lively acoustic resonance. Plugged in, it delivers exactly what you want from a Standard: thick, vocal mids, smooth sustain and enough bite to cut through a mix without ever sounding harsh.

A limited run, unusual finish, ebony board and near 20 years old in this condition — it ticks a lot of boxes.

Condition Report:

Excellent condition for the year. Extremely clean with only light signs of handling. No structural issues. Frets and hardware remain in great shape. A very well-preserved example.
