This is a really interesting and very honest vintage ES-345. What I like about it is that it still keeps the heart of a proper 1967 ES-345 — original finish, original wood, original pots, the Sparkling Burgundy metallic, and all the visual class that makes these late-'60s examples so appealing — but it has been sympathetically pushed towards maximum real-world playability. The colour is a huge part of the appeal too. These Sparkling Burgundy finishes often fade beautifully, and the way this one has mellowed towards a burnt orange while still showing the deeper original shade in the protected areas gives it loads of character. Spec-wise, the stop tail conversion, period-correct bridge, refret, new nut and quality Gotoh tuners should make it a far easier guitar to enjoy regularly than a stricter all-original example. The Joe Dobson Sonic Monkeys Peter Green pickups sound like a real highlight as well, especially with that out-of-phase middle position and the mono-converted Varitone still giving you plenty of usable tones. It feels like a vintage Gibson that has been set up for someone who actually wants to play it, not just admire it in a case.
Condition Report
Very good condition for age. This is an original finish 1967 ES-345 with original pots, original wood and a very attractive, naturally faded Sparkling Burgundy finish. It has had a refret, a refin to the back of the neck near the top of the headstock around what appears to have been a small and evidently old headstock crack, and a stop tail conversion with period-correct 1960s bridge. The repair is described as solid, subtle in person, and difficult to notice. The guitar has also had replacement pickups, tuners, nut, pickguard and knobs, and the Varitone has been converted to mono while remaining functional. Overall it presents as an exceptionally usable and well-sorted vintage player with tasteful, high-standard work carried out to improve performance.
