  • Personal Thoughts

The JEM77-FP is one of the most iconic Steve Vai models ever made and one of the few guitars that genuinely feels instantly recognisable from across the room. The floral pattern finish is obviously the big talking point, but the spec underneath it is equally strong. Basswood body, maple neck, rosewood board, 24 frets, PAF Pros and a locking trem is classic late-'80s high-performance Ibanez in exactly the way people want it. I also think the clear guard, pink hardware accents and vine inlay are a huge part of why these feel so special — they are unapologetically of their era, but still cool rather than gimmicky. On top of that, this one sounds especially appealing because condition matters massively on these. Finding one this clean, with no neck pocket cracks and still presenting properly well, makes a real difference on an FP. The original model details, including the floral cloth-over-body finish, basswood body, maple neck, rosewood board, fluorescent vine inlay and PAF Pro / JEM single pickup layout, are consistent with period model references.

  • Condition Report

Excellent / exceptionally clean for year. A very well-preserved 1989 example with no neck pocket cracks noted, which is always a big plus on a vintage JEM. Presents far cleaner than most surviving examples from this period. Supplied with an Ibanez aftermarket case.
