This is a particularly cool early Macmull S-Classic and a great example of the company’s vintage-inspired approach. The combination of Aged Black and a maple fingerboard gives it a beautifully understated late-’50s feel, while the factory relic work adds plenty of character without taking away from the clean simplicity of the design.

Macmull’s whole philosophy centres around treating the guitar as a complete system rather than simply combining premium components. Their RVT approach focuses heavily on matching the body, neck, pickups and electronics to produce a more consistent vintage-style response, and that philosophy is a big part of why these guitars have developed such a strong reputation among players looking beyond the usual Custom Shop options.

The maple board gives this example a slightly brighter visual character than the more commonly seen rosewood-board S-Classics and works particularly well with the aged black finish. Tonally, the SSS format keeps things firmly in classic Strat territory, with plenty of clarity, dynamics and that dry, immediate attack associated with a great vintage-inspired S-style guitar.

Being a 2017 example, this also comes from relatively early in Macmull’s development and has a little more interest from a collector perspective than a current-production instrument. A very tasteful boutique S-style with genuine personality and some seriously convincing ageing.

Excellent condition. The checking, finish wear, marks and hardware patina are part of Macmull’s original factory relic treatment rather than subsequent damage. Beyond the intentional ageing, the guitar presents very cleanly overall with only light signs of careful use.
