This is a superb example of Macmull’s S-Classic and a guitar built around the idea of recreating the response and character of a genuinely good vintage instrument rather than simply copying its appearance. The aged Black finish with rosewood board gives it a particularly understated early-’60s look, while the factory relic work adds the visual character and played-in feel associated with an older Strat-style instrument.

A major part of the Macmull philosophy is its RVT – Real Vintage Tone system. Rather than treating the body, neck, pickups and electronics as separate components, Macmull matches them as a complete system. Timber is selected and paired according to factors including weight, grain, moisture content and resonant response, while the pickups and electronic values are then individually chosen to complement that particular guitar.

The result is intended to retain the natural character of the wood rather than overpower it with excessively hot pickups. Macmull typically aims for a medium-output, dynamic single-coil response with plenty of headroom, fast attack and the dry, open quality associated with strong vintage examples. It makes the S-Classic an especially interesting proposition for someone wanting an exceptionally refined boutique S-style guitar without losing the immediacy and simplicity that makes the original format so appealing.

Mint condition beyond the intentional factory relic treatment. The lacquer wear, checking, ageing and hardware patina are all part of Macmull’s original relic specification rather than subsequent damage. No noteworthy additional wear, fret wear or issues to mention.
