This is a lovely spec for anyone who appreciates the older Martin way of doing things. The 0-28VS has that smaller 12-fret body, slotted headstock, pyramid bridge, wide 1 7/8" nut and Modified V neck, so it really leans into a more traditional, pre-war-inspired feel rather than trying to be a modern all-rounder. That combination tends to suit fingerstyle beautifully. The short 24.9" scale and 12-fret design usually give these a softer, more relaxed response, while the spruce and East Indian rosewood pairing brings in plenty of warmth, sweetness and overtone richness. I also think the ebony board and pyramid bridge give it a really elegant look, and the herringbone-style top trim and vintage appointments make it feel properly special. These are not just nice little parlours to look at — they have a refined, intimate voice that can be incredibly addictive in the hands of the right player.
