This is a seriously attractive Macon Special and a great example of Patrick James Eggle’s ability to combine unusual tonewoods with a beautifully understated vintage-inspired design. The spalted maple top is the obvious centrepiece, with a completely individual grain pattern that gives the guitar far more visual character than a conventional figured maple top. Paired with the natural finish, mahogany body and aged nickel hardware, it has a really organic, almost one-off feel.

The roasted maple neck and substantial Fat C profile should give it a solid, reassuring feel in the hand, while the shorter 24.625" scale and wrapover bridge keep the guitar lively and responsive. The Mojo P-90 and humbucker combination is particularly appealing, offering a clearer, more open neck voice alongside a fuller and more powerful bridge sound. It is a simple but very versatile layout and suits the Macon platform perfectly. The heat-aged nitro finish and worn neck treatment add further character without making the guitar feel overly relic’d. A beautifully made British boutique guitar with a genuinely distinctive top and a very strong player-focused specification.
