This is a spectacular Private Stock Custom 24, and the top is the real centrepiece. The curly maple has an unusually dramatic, almost feather-like pattern running away from the centre seam, giving the front of the guitar a striking symmetry that feels completely different from a conventional flame top. Under the Charcoal Smoked Burst finish, the figuring takes on an almost three-dimensional quality, with the darker outer edge framing the lighter centre beautifully.

The specification is equally unusual. Curly maple is used not only for the top, but also for the neck, fingerboard and matching headstock veneer, with the board and headstock stained to match and finished with ebony binding. The black and white web bird inlays with black onyx outlines continue the monochrome aesthetic perfectly and make the whole guitar feel genuinely bespoke.

The swamp ash back adds another point of difference and looks superb against the much darker front, while the Pattern Thin carve, Gen III tremolo and Phase III tuners keep the guitar firmly in familiar Custom 24 territory from a playing perspective. The 58/15 pickups and 5-way blade provide a broad range of clear, articulate humbucker and split-style tones without overcomplicating the controls.
