This is a spectacular Private Stock P22 and an unusually wood-focused build even by PRS Private Stock standards. The Tiger Eye Glow finish across the curly maple top has enormous depth, but the specification goes far beyond the top alone. PRS also used curly maple for the neck, fingerboard and headstock veneer, with cocobolo binding framing both the board and headstock to create a very cohesive custom-built appearance.

The inlay work is one of the major highlights. Rather than conventional shell birds, each position uses a mixture of exotic woods including ziricote, koa, zebrawood, East Indian rosewood, cocobolo, snakewood, burl maple, tulipwood and pink ivory. The Private Stock eagle continues the theme using zebrawood, pink ivory and ziricote, making the detailing on this guitar genuinely exceptional.

Tonally, the P22 platform is enormously versatile. The 58/15 humbuckers provide the warm, articulate vintage-inspired voice PRS is known for, while the integrated piezo system adds convincing acoustic-style sounds from the same instrument. The swamp ash back and curly maple neck also make this a particularly unusual variation on the traditional PRS construction recipe.
