Personal Thoughts:
This is Yamaha’s flagship small-bodied acoustic, built entirely in Japan to an exceptional standard. The FS9-M uses all-solid tonewoods with a torrefied Adirondack spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides for that dry, articulate tone with a focused midrange punch.
Tonally, it sits somewhere between a Martin 00 and an OM—intimate but still rich enough for flatpicking and light strumming. The craftsmanship is flawless, and the nitro finish lets the wood breathe and age naturally. If you’re looking for a high-end, compact acoustic with vintage voicing and boutique-level quality without the boutique price tag, this FS9-M is a sleeper hit.
